Andrade was born in India on May 21, 1958, the third child in a family
of two boys and two girls. He is the son of John and the late Josephine
Andrade. He
did his schooling at St. Michael's High School, Mahim, Bombay and graduated
in Commerce and Economics from the Bombay University in 1978. He
joined the Redemptorists on January 6, 1980 and made his novitiate in
Bangalore in 1980-1981, professing vows for the first time on June 27,
1981. He professed perpetual
vows on June 28, 1985. He did his philosophical
and theological studies at St. Alphonsus College, Bangalore from 1981
to 1988. He was ordained a priest
in his home parish, St. Michael’s Church, Mahim, Bombay on April 24, 1988. From 1988 to 1991 he conducted seminars
and served on the Mission Staff, preaching parish renewal missions and
retreats to different groups. From 1991 to 1995 he did his licentiate
in Sacred Scripture at the Biblicum
in Rome and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. From 1995 to 2003 he served as Scripture
professor at Sadupadesa College (philosophy) and St. Alphonsus College
(theology), Bangalore. From 1996 to 1999 he was appointed and served as
Dean of St. Alphonsus College, Bangalore and assistant student formation
director. He was on the staff of St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute where
he taught Scripture and Biblical Hebrew. He also lectured in other seminaries
in Bangalore and other parts of India. He has been involved in the ongoing scriptural
formation for lay people at the National Biblical, Catechetical and Liturgical
Center. He has conducted retreats for diocesan and religious priests and
served as chaplain to the Christian Family Movement, assisting especially
the Bangalore Diocesan Family Welfare Centre. He served the Province of Bangalore, India
from 1999 to 2002 as the Provincial Vicar. In 2002 he was elected the
second Provincial Consultor and appointed secretary of the Province. Fr. Andrade was elected a General Consultor
from the Region of Asia-Oceania on October 1, 2003, at the XXIII General
Chapter in Rome. During the 2003-2009 sexennium on the General Council, he served on the General Secretariat for Redemptorist Spirituality. Fr.
Andrade was re-elected a General Consultor on November 5, 2009, at the
XXIV General Chapter in Rome. |
